Inverter Convertor Kit

With an ever increasing demand of energy and the shortage in the generation the prices of the conventional energy are increasing day by day, the day is not far away when the price of renewable energy would be at par with the conventional energy.


Present Situation:

There is a big market of small inverters in India and over 4 million inverters are sold every year, so there is big group of prospective customer having inverters/HUPS in their homes and would like to take benefit of renewable energy such as solar energy. The regular solutions available in the market provide a saperate charge controller the existing inverter battery, the inverter also charges the battery simultaneously when mains supply is present. This kind of solution does not provide optimum performance for charging the battery. When mains is present it would charge the battery at a constant current and the solar energy would not be utilized fully when mains supply has already charged the battery to full state.


The Solution:

Controller converter kit overcomes the challenges in the existing solutions. It can be connected with any existing inverter and convert into solar power system. It controls the main supply to the inverter so that when the battery is fully charged and solar is still available to charge the battery, it automatically disconnects the mains from the inverter and the inverter start working in backup mode an now power is supplied through Solar/battery. When the battery is discharged below the pre-defined user settable limit and mains is present, it is connected to the inverter so that the load is bypassed to mains and the battery is charging can take place.

Charge Controller

A solar charge controller is a device needed for monitoring and controlling the charging of battery bank connected to the PV modules. Main function of a solar charge controller is to limit the rate at which electric current is added to or drawn from batteries. It prevents overcharging and protects battery from voltage fluctuation, which can reduce battery performance or lifespan and may pose a safety risk.

Charge controller can be used as either a standalone device or a control circuitry integrated within a battery pack, a battery powered solar device or a battery recharger. It is basically built for off grid solar power systems and bifurcates into two varities:-

  • i. Solar Charge Controller with PWM Technology
  • ii. Solar Charge Controller with MPPT Technology
  • i. Solar Charge Controller with PWM Technology:
    Traditional solar regulators featuring PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) charging operates by making a connection directly from the solar array to the battery bank. During bulk charging when there is a continuous connection from the array to the battery bank, the array out put voltage is pulled don to the battery voltage. The battery voltage adjust slightly up depending on the amount of current provided by the array and the size and characteristics of the battery.
  • ii. Solar Charge Controller with MPPT Technology:
    MPPT controllers feature buck post converter technology, designed to quickly and accurate determine the Vamp(maximum power voltage) of the solar array. MPPT controllers Sweep the solar input to determine the voltage at which the array is producing the maximum amount of power. The controllers harvest power from the array at the Vmp voltage and convert it down to battery voltage, boosting charging current in the process.

A Solar PV water pumping systems is essentially an electric pump running on electricity generated by a solar photovoltaic array.


       A. Components of a solar PV water pumping system:
  • i. Solar PV array:
    The Solar PV array is a set of photovoltaic modules connected in series and possibly strings of modules connected in parallel.
  • ii. Controller:
    The Controller is an electronic device which matches the PV power to the motor and regulates the operation of the pump according to the input from the solar PV array.
  • iii.
    Pump Set: Pump sets generally comprise of the motor, which drives the operation and the actual pump which moves the water under pressure.
    B. Water pumping motors are “alternating current’ (AC) or ‘direct current’ (DC):
    • i. AC Motors: AC Motors require inverters to convert DC to AC. Solar pumping systems use special electronically controlled variable frequency inverters, which optimises matching between the panel and the pump.
    • ii. DC Motor: The DC Motors with permanent magnet are generally more efficient. DC Motors may be with or without carbon brushes. DC motors with carbon brushes need to be replaced after approximately every 2 years. Brushless designs require electronic commutation. Brushless DC Motors are becoming popular in the solar water pumps
    C. Types of Pump:
    • i. Surface Pump:Placed besides the water source (lake, well, etc.).
    • ii. Submersible Pump: Placed in the water source.
    • iii. Floating pump: Placed on top of the water.

    Surface pumps are less expensive than submersible pumps but they are not well suited for suction and can only draw water from about 6.5 vertical meters. Yet they are excellent for pushing water over long distances.
